Every Spider-Man Release Coming In 2022 And Beyond

Obviously, it goes without saying that if you haven't seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet, proceed with caution! There will be spoilers ahead...

CONFIRMED

Morbius

When: January 2022

Starring: Jared Leto, Jared Harris, Matt Smith, Michael Keaton

Directed by: Daniel Espinosa

Dr Michael Morbius first appeared as a villain in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, becoming one of Spidey's first horror-themed villains in the process, before going on to become an adversary to Blade. He would later go on to have a solo comic run as an anti-hero, and it looks like that will be the basis for this Jared Leto-starring origin story.

This is the third entry of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, following on from Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage and whilst it looks a bit bland on the surface, it'll at least have a few surprises with Michael Keaton's Vulture making an appearance in the trailer as well as a very curious Spider-Man Easter Egg!

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part One)

When: December 2022

Starring: Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac

Directed by: Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson

Although the first film, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, didn't quite make a major dent at the box office, it still made enough to ensure it had a sequel. Throw in an Academy Award for Best Animated Picture and amazing word of mouth and thankfully we will get to see more of this iteration of Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey. Even better, we'll be seeing another sequel, currently scheduled for release in 2023.

The upcoming animated epic was recently voted second most anticipated movie of 2022, coming in just behind Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, so it looks like this one could be a huge hit upon its release in October.

Kraven The Hunter

When: January 2023

Starring: Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Directed by: J.C. Chandor

This one's a bit of a headscratcher. Whilst Kraven the Hunter might be the main character in arguably the best Spider-Man storyline ever, the character doesn't seem like a good fit for a solo movie. Equally baffling is the casting of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has already played Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron and if Sony's Spider-Man Universe is connected to the MCU, as evidenced in Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's going to be hard to explain how this all makes sense. Let's just hope thsat his awful generic Eastern European accent from Age of Ultron is gone and his Russian accent is more accurate.

It would be preferable to save Kraven for a Spider-Man movie but we're getting regardless so we'll see how it goes...

Spider-Man: Freshman Year

When: TBA

Starring: TBA

Directed by: TBA

Announced during Disney+ Day on November 12th 2021, Spider-Man: Freshman Year is an animated prequel to Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming, focusing on Peter's journey to becoming Spider-Man. It's not yet known if Tom Holland will reprise his role (Hudson Thames portrayed the character in What If...?) or when the series will be released but we'll keep you updated as soon as more details are announced!

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part Two)

When: 2023 (TBA)

Starring: TBA

Directed by: TBA

We know as much as you do! For now, it's scheduled for 2023 but it doesn't have an official release date yet so that could change. It's unlikely we'll hear anymore about this until after Part One but as soon as we know more, we'll be sure to keep you up to date!

OTHER POTENTIAL APPEARANCES AND PROJECTS

What If...? (Season 2)

When: TBA

Starring: Zoe Saldana + more TBA

Directed by: TBA

Apart from the Gamora-centric episode starring Zoe Saldana, which was moved from Season 1 to Season 2 due to complications with the global pandemic, not much is known about What If...? Season 2. We may see Hudson Thames reprise the role of Peter Parker from the first season, although it seems more likely that we'll see his iteration of Spider-Man again in...

Marvel Zombies

When: TBA

Starring: TBA

Directed by: TBA

The fifth episode of What If...?, titled What If... Zombies?!, proved popular enough that Marvel Studios are moving forward with a full season adaptation of the much-loved Earth-2149 set comic book series. The aforementioned episode ended with Peter Parker (Hudson Thames), Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) heading towards Wakanda in Quinjet, unaware that a zombified Thanos (Josh Brolin) is awaiting their arrival.

It's not yet known if Marvel Zombies will pick up after this episode, something that is complicated by the passing of Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, or if it will be a completely new take on the epic saga, but as soon as we find out more we'll be sure to let you know!

Venom 3

When: TBA

Starring: Tom Hardy (TBC), Stephen Graham (TBC)

Directed by: TBA

Venom: Let There Be Carnage may not have been quite the moneymaker that its predecessor was, but considering when it was released (amid a pandemic), it still exceeded expectations at the box office and at the time of writing is the sixth highest-grossing film of 2021 worldwide. With Morbius and Kraven The Hunter expanding Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the Toxin tease with Stephen Graham and that post-credits scene, it's pretty clear that we'll be seeing the third outing for Eddie Brock before long. Whether or not we'll see an appearance from Tom Holland's Spider-Man remains to be seen, but that seems unlikely for now.

Unknown MCU Moview

When: ?

Starring: ?

Directed by: ?

Now this one, we know almost nothing about. After the release of 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios worried their fans by announcing that their partnership had come to an end and Tom Holland would exclusively be joining Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Fortunately, after considerable backlash from not just the fans, but by many of the creatives at Marvel Studios, the two companies were able to iron things out and announce that not only would we be seeing Holland return to the MCU for another Spider-Man movie, but he would also be appearing in some shape or form in a separate MCU movie.

While things went quiet on that front for a while, Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman recently revealed that they're operating on a "one for us, one for you" basis, effectively confirming that Tom Holland will appear in an as-yet-unannounced MCU project before he returns in...

Spider-Man 4

When: TBA

Starring: Tom Holland (TBC)

Directed by: TBA

As I write this article, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has just confirmed that Spider-Man 4 is in active development. This comes after a few weeks of Sony Pictures' Amy Pascal confirming, and then walking back on, details for a second trilogy starring Tom Holland. When we'll see Spider-Man 4 is another matter entirely, as they may want to rest the character for now, and Tom Holland is likely going to want some time off to do other things before returning to the MCU.
